COURSE SYLLABUS

With a teaching time of 18 hours (normally over 3 days), this course content is in line with the Health & Safety Executive (First Aid Regulations) 1981, covering the following:

DAY 1

  • Aims & Priorities of First Aid
  • Incident Management & Scene Safety
  • Casualty Assessment
  • Cardiac Arrest & Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • The Unconscious Casualty & The Recovery Position
  • Recognition & Management of Choking
  • Wounds & Bleeding
  • Hypovolaemic Shock
  • Minor Workplace Injuries

DAY 2

  • The Respiratory System & Hypoxia
  • Chest Injuries
  • Asthma & Hyperventilation
  • The Circulatory System
  • Heart Attack & Angina
  • Stroke (CVA)
  • Shock (different types)
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns & Scalds
  • Poisons

DAY 3

  • The Skeletal System
  • Fractures / Dislocations
  • Sprains & Strains
  • Spinal Injuries
  • Head Injuries
  • Eye Injuries
  • Secondary Survey
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy

Group work, theory, demonstration and most important of all practical application, this course is designed to leave you feeling confident to administer First Aid in a multitude of situations.

Assessment process:

The Instructor will continually visually assess the 5 practical elements over 3 days, ensuring they meet the competence required.

Candidates will be invited to sit the 2 short multi-choice assessment papers (Day 1 & Day 3; when criteria has been met; they will be awarded their QCF Level 3 qualification which will be valid for 3 years.

Accredited via Qualsafe Awards (national awarding body), regulated by OFQUAL. This Level 3 course also brings 2 learning credits.
